Our Story

Why "Friends of Dorothy?"

Judy Garland, who played Dorothy in the original Wizard of Oz movie, was a well-known supporter of the queer community. Back before it was legal to be queer, LGBTQ+ folks would identify each other by asking, “Are you a ‘friend of Dorothy?’"
Today, as anti-LGBTQ attacks proliferate across the US, it is just as important as ever to identify our allies. Welcome to Friends of Dorothy, a queer-owned marketing agency that will take you over the rainbow. Are you with us or are you with us?

At Friends of Dorothy Marketing, our mission is to help small businesses grow through strategic, inclusive, and fully integrated marketing services. Inspired by the history behind our name, we believe in creating space for all kinds of businesses while honoring our roots in queer community and culture.
